iVideo Technologies Assists Brunswick Educational Access Television with a 24-Hour Message Board

PhotoBrunswick City Schools’ Education Channel 22 (the “BEAT”) is a nationally recognized community channel featuring shows produced primarily by 6th–12th grade students. When the BEAT needed assistance with a digital signage solution, iVideo Technologies was sought out as a partner to develop a high-quality, easy to use program.

The BEAT had a need for an advanced, yet easy to use digital signage solution to work in conjunction with its broadcast equipment that includes JVC cameras, a Grass Valley switcher, and four Final Cut Pro editing stations. This equipment and the studio that the school operates out of were donated by a local Fox station. John Wasylko, Director of Community Relations for Brunswick City Schools, stated, “Our community views us as a professional station and expects professional programming even though we are student-driven.”

PhotoWorking with iVideo Technologies to get a high quality, flexible digital signage solution was the next component of developing Brunswick’s complete community TV station. The CastNET digital signage solution was designed, programmed, and installed by iVideo Technologies. The system is displayed as a full-screen message, a scrolling news bar along the bottom third of the screen and/or in a rotating message zone along the right third of the screen.

The CastNET user interface is effortless to use and easy to learn which is very important since the BEAT has a high turnover rate as students enter and graduate from school. Students with the proper authorization provide content to the CastNET server from any computer with a web browser, no matter where they are located. Once the content is created, the CastNET system workflow requires the content to be approved and activated by a gatekeeper. Wasylko stated, “That level of security and approval is important in a student run station.”

Photo“CastNET is the digital signage software we use to generate messages, announcements and calendars which are used for a 24-hour message board that is broadcast on the channel. We’ve been loyal CastNET users for several years,” said Wasylko. “We purchased CastNET based on our partnership with Mike Gruszczynski at iVideo Technologies. Mike and iVideo Technologies have been very supportive in providing CastNET training as we have expanded the system into all eleven schools in the district.”
