Many times a
project can take on a life of its own.
That is very true with Industrial Video Inc.’s
design/installation project for Valley Baptist Church of Bakersfield,
CA. It all began Christmas
2004 with a call from their director of media to “come out and talk”
about helping VBC grow their media ministry.
Valley
Baptist
Church
was doing what many churches do,
simple prosumer camcorders into a small, frame base switcher, mixed with
scripture and song support graphics projected to two screens in the
sanctuary. But the pastor
wanted to grow the ministry and he had a vision that would reach far
beyond the
Sacramento
valley.
After a whirlwind weekend trip
Mike Sparke
, Regional Sales Manager and
Valley’s Account Manager planned out the basics for their upgrade and
determined a working budget.
During
the summer of 2005, IVC’s Director of Operations and Engineering,
John
Barak
worked with Mike to flesh out the design and formulate a complete scope
of work. The final design
was approved at NAB 2005 and work began with a target date of a
mid-December installation, just in time for the Christmas season.

The project
consisted of a complete broadcast control room, with two switchers (one
IMAG and one broadcast,) audio control room, engineering and graphics.
The church would be covered by five cameras, one on a jib.
As work began in
Bakersfield
on the remodeling of the rooms, the
build-out began in IVC’s
Cleveland
engineering shop.
The plan was to build the facility, test it, then dismantle it
for shipping to
California
for integration.
Due to construction delays in
Bakersfield
, the planned Christmas installation
was delayed until April of 2006 -- just before Easter.
“It
was simply amazing.
John Barak
and his crew met the moving van on
Monday and by Thursday we were in rehearsal for Sunday’s service” Dave
Kalahar, Director of Media Ministries says.
“Mike and John were ‘spot on’ in helping us build a
facility that met our needs into the future.”
Dave continued by saying “Our ministry will soon reach our 100th
episode. It’s happened
with no down time, efficient workflow and an open door of creativity
that allows our team to produce excellent work.
All this would not be possible without the technical facility
that Industrial Video made possible.”
